Henry Ossawa Tanner Illustration / Black History Art Print
This is a print of my illustration of Henry Ossawa Tanner (1859-1937), the first Black painter to gain international acclaim. After self-study, he enrolled in 1878 at Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) in Philadelphia and was the only black student. Tanner made many connections among artists and became a favorite of his teacher Thomas Eakins, one of the most important artists in American art history. Tanner later moved to Paris in 1891.
This is the perfect small gift for the Henry Ossawa Tanner fan, the fine art enthusiast, or the person who just wants a piece of Black history art to put on their wall.
Using photographs as reference, I illustrated this digitally using Adobe Photoshop and my trusty Wacom drawing tablet. I print it here at my home studio and it currently comes in three print sizes: 5 x 7 inch (12.7 x 17.8 cm), 8 x 10 inches (20.3 x 25.4 cm) and 11 x 14 inches (27.9 x 35.6 cm). Every size is on bright white, medium weight paper.
